You see celebrities on screen all the time. But what happens in those unscripted, real-life moments between a husband and wife, even when they’re in the spotlight? Well, Amitabh Bachchan just gave everyone a hilarious peek behind the curtain.
On a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, celebrating his 83rd birthday, Big B shared a classic story about his wife, Jaya Bachchan. And it’s probably something you’ve seen happen in your own family.
She Hated His Most Famous Song
Look, we all know the song “Mere Angne Mein” from the 1981 film Laawaris. It’s iconic. But here’s the thing. Jaya Bachchan absolutely couldn’t stand it at first. Really.
Amitabh revealed that when she saw it for the first time at a trial screening, she was so upset she stormed right out of the theater. She even scolded him later, asking, “How can you ever do something like this?” She just intensely disliked it.
Lipstick, Stage, and a Watchful Wife
So, fast forward about 15 years to the mid-90s. The song is a massive hit, and Amitabh often performed it at award shows. He’d even invite women from the audience to come on stage and dance with him. Naturally, some of these excited fans would hug or kiss him on the cheek.
And what was Jaya Bachchan doing while all this was happening on stage? Was she enjoying the performance? Nope. Amitabh told guests Farhan Akhtar and Javed Akhtar that she had only one mission: wiping the lipstick marks off his cheek. He said she’d be completely focused on just cleaning his face.
He laughed it off, calling it a “very typical trait of all wives.” He described it as a sign of her possessiveness and her sharp attention to detail. It’s a small, funny moment that shows even superstars deal with the same stuff everyone else does.
