Zubeen Garg’s Drowning: 5 Accused Sent to Jail; Murder Charges Added in Shocking Case

The investigation into Assamese singer Zubeen Garg’s tragic death is getting more intense by the day. And now, things just took a major turn. A Guwahati court has sent five accused individuals, including some of the singer’s closest aides, to 14-day judicial custody as of October 15.

Yeah, you read that right. These aren’t strangers. We’re talking about people who were part of his inner circle. The beloved singer drowned during a yacht party in Singapore on September 19, 2025, and the case has been spiraling ever since.

So Who Is Actually Accused?

Look, the list of people in custody is pretty shocking. It makes you wonder what was really going on behind the scenes. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been working hard, and their efforts led to these arrests.

Here are the five people now in judicial custody:

  • Shyamkanu Mahanta: The Northeast Festival organiser.
  • Siddharth Sharma: Zubeen Garg’s own manager.
  • Sandipan Garg: His cousin, who is also an Assam Police DSP.
  • Nandeshwar Bora: One of his personal security officers (PSOs).
  • Paresh Baishya: His other personal security officer (PSO).

Sandipan Garg, the DSP, was arrested on October 8 and has since been suspended from his post. The main organisers, Mahanta and Sharma, were arrested earlier on October 1. Initially, they were charged with culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy, but here’s the kicker. Murder charges have since been added. This is huge.

What’s Next for the Investigation?

But honestly, it doesn’t stop there. Due to security concerns and potential threats from Zubeen’s massive fanbase, all five accused have been moved to the new Baksa District Jail, which is about 100 km from Guwahati. Authorities are clearly taking no chances.

And there are more people involved. Two other suspects, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amir Prabha Mahanta, are still in CID custody. They’re scheduled to appear in court on October 17. On top of all this, a separate financial case has been filed against Amir Prabha Mahanta for alleged financial crimes. It seems like this case has layers upon layers.

The SIT is also looking deeper, even questioning three Assamese community members from Singapore on October 15. They’re piecing together everything that happened that day on the yacht. With so many people close to Zubeen under suspicion, you have to ask: what will they uncover next?
